what we stand for

Three values underpin everything we do:

supportive

We are a welcoming, friendly, and approachable organisation that values the well-being and success of those we support. Whether through guidance, education, or practical help, we are committed to helping both people and dogs thrive.

Collaborative

We believe in learning from one another and working together across roles, including professionals, veterinary teams and dog owners. By fostering strong partnerships, we create a united, ethical approach to canine behaviour and training.

Progressive

We stay at the forefront of science-led, ethical, and welfare-focused methods. By championing best practices and advocating for industry regulation, we help raise standards and improve outcomes for dogs and those who support them.

The Thing About Deaf Dogs with Karen Lawe

22nd October 2025 at 7pm (will be recorded)

Karen has had an interest in and involvement with deaf dogs for forty years, with a particular focus over the past twenty years. Since co-founding The Deaf Dog Network with Jaqi Bunn in January 2011, she has worked extensively to support deaf dogs and their owners. She has helped people train themselves and their dogs – hearing or deaf – for almost thirty years.

This webinar will cover the basics of why dogs can be deaf and address common myths surrounding them. It will also explore the loneliness breeders and owners may experience when they first realise their dog is deaf, and offer guidance on how to manage these emotions without panic. The session will discuss the differences in training a dog who cannot hear and provide strategies for including deaf dogs in classes or workshops. Additionally, we will look at some behaviours these dogs can show, and the lack of knowledge out there in dog owners - many of whom believe the myths.

Coop Care Training for Dog Trainers - How to Help our Clients

As dog trainers and behaviourists many of us understand the struggles many dog guardians face in terms of grooming and vet care. We also struggle with getting the time to work on these issues, considering all the other training priorities that may need attention. Some may also be aware of consent based training and the principles behind this, but may struggle with how to explain to our clients how this training can create a dialogue that their dog could learn to trust.

In this presentation, Laura Ward CCAB, and founder of The Pet Prep Initiative, delves into how to prioritise training plans, how to explain the nuance of this training to our clients, and how working with veterinary and grooming professionals could become easier and commonplace if we all work together.

The "Good Life" of a "Good Dog" - A Total Welfare Model for the Future of the Pet Dog Industry

How do you REALLY get a "Good Dog"? By giving them a "Good Life" - a term that has been defined by leading animal welfare scientists concerned with the characteristics of optimal welfare as the gold standard for any animal living under human control and captive conditions. Because - guess what? Animals who have this "Good Life" standard of welfare do not have behavior problems.

This talk will be a powerful, game-changing, conflict-mediating introduction to Kim Brophey's new Total Welfare Model and App - the integration of the internationally celebrated L.E.G.S. Model of Canine Science with the updated framework of the Five Domains Model of Animal Welfare and Behavioral Diversity welfare assessments.
